TRADING

DUCAT AFRICA’s ability to create long-term sustainable value in the supply chain is contingent upon five core competencies:

Technical Expertise: Our client base consists of sophisticated industrial bulk users and state-owned enterprises and our role is to supplement technical or operational knowledge in fuel, energy and refinery-adjacent product supply. DUCAT AFRICA’s role is to act as their in-house trading and brokerage division, providing them with technical expertise and market information to help make informed purchasing decisions.

Logistics: Our role is to understand complexity in both the international and domestic context to provide a logistics solution for our client base to allow them to concentrate on their core business, whilst being confident that their key inputs will be available to them.

Scale: Our ability to open accounts and deal with major importers and refiners of products, where we can purchase and aggregate multiple counterparts. We would typically forward book either slots in a refinery or liftings ex-tank, with terms agreed either at a global level or by means of bank guarantees. DUCAT AFRICA can then provide our client base with the economies of scale that may not be available to them.

In Country Knowledge: Leveraging decades of experience, our commercial teams have established relationships with a diversified supplier and client base.

Management: Our risk management and financial capacity provide our clients and our suppliers with the comfort that they are dealing with a counterpart that can deliver the services and goods promised.

SEABORNE

Crude Oil and Product Supply Trading: despite being independent from the majors, DUCAT has the relationships and key personnel to source various crude oil products or crude oil at competitive prices and experience in seaborne trading to deliver full or part cargoes on a CIF basis.

DOWNSTREAM

Downstream Energy Distribution: As a registered wholesaler of energy products, DUCAT works with its client base to supply refinery-adjacent products to service their industrial needs. Unlike traditional “trading” or “brokerage” concerns, our role is to anticipate our client needs and to work with them to deliver complex logistical, risk management (price and supply), and financial solutions to address their needs.

DUCAT Energy Trading is a registered bunkering provider and has been granted bunker licences to deliver MGO, VLSFO, HFO, Diesel 50ppm to owners, operators and charterers of commercial vessels by road tanker in all major ports in South Africa.

DUCAT Energy Trading PTY is a 51% black owned business.

MARKETING

DUCAT AFRICA’s Marketing division represents our consumer and retail facing business.

DUCAT Retail owns and operates mobility hubs across South Africa; third party branded filling stations, truck stops, retail stores and food and beverage outlets.

DUCAT AFRICA entered the consumer facing market in 2024 through our LPG division, DUCAT LPG. DUCAT LPG currently operates bottling and packing facilities in the Western Cape (South Africa), with branded gas being sold to independent resellers, authorised distributors and direct sales to consumers. Our inhouse brand UBUNTU GAS launched in 2024, has become the favoured choice of consumers in the current geographies it serves. Based on strong brand awareness and differentiation based on customer service, the company plans to roll out branded gas sales across South Africa. UBUNTU GAS is underpinned by a technological endoskeleton, which allows us to be highly responsive to shifts in consumer demand and service delivery.
